UCalgary Guitar Ensemble presents an evening of music for classical guitar featuring solos, duets and trios.
The evening’s diverse programme includes solo music by J.S. Bach, English Renaissance composer John Dowland, Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo, and Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
The concert also presents duets and trio music including Nocturnes by 19th century French composer Antoine de Lhoyer (1768-1852), “Distracted by the Stones on the Path” by award-winning Canadian composer Christine Dunkin, and “Juxtapositions” by Canadian classical guitarist and composer William Beauvais.
The concert also features UCalgary grad student Benjamin Lahring performing Le Rossiniane No. 1, Op. 119. This virtuoso piece is based on operatic themes by Rossini, composed by Italian composer and guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani (1789-1829).
