A Celebration of Music by Black Composers III

A Celebration of Music by Black Composers III features the UCalgary String Quartet and the newly appointed University of Calgary, Piano faculty member, Dr. Jani Parsons

This concert is the third concert in a series which features music by Black composers. The series was initiated in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The featured composers in this concert are the Jamaican composer Eleanor Alberga, the English composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and the American composer William Grant Still. 

The featured musicians are Edmond Agopian, violin, Isaac Willocks, violin, Dean O’Brien, viola, Beth Root Sandvoss, cello, and Jani Parsons, piano.

SCPA COVID-19 Guidelines:

  • Those who are feeling ill, and particularly those with COVID-19 type symptoms identified by Alberta Health Services cannot attend events on campus.
  • Non-medical grade face masks must be worn in all indoor areas on University of Calgary campuses, included while seated during a performance.
  • Upon entry to the venue, ALL visitors that are 12 years of age and older must present active UCID identification OR proof of full vaccination status OR proof of a negative, privately paid, Health Canada approved rapid antigen, rapid PCR or lab-based PCR Covid-19 test completed within 72 hours prior to arrival.
  • As of November 15, 2021, the only valid Alberta proof of vaccination will be the Alberta vaccine records with a QR code. Vaccination records from First Nations, military, other provinces and international travelers will continue to be accepted.
  • SCPA events are currently limited to reduced 2/3 audience capacity.
  • Non-ticketed SCPA events will be seated on a first come, first served, basis. Please be advised that capacity is limited, and we cannot guarantee admittance.
