Join baroque violinist Andrea Neumann and friends in the fourth lecture recital featuring the contemplative and exquisite Mystery Sonatas of Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber.
Also known as the Rosary Sonatas, these pieces correspond with events in the life of Mary and Jesus according to the Rosary Prayers in the Roman Catholic tradition. Biber's use of altered tunings, known as "scordatura" was groundbreaking for it's time, remains so today, and is a mind-expanding experience for both the performers and the audience. With historical information we'll gain insights into the unique perspective of Biber and his musical reflection of the joyful, the sorrowful and the glorious mysteries. It will be a rare and truly unique opportunity to hear this music performed on historical instruments here in Calgary. Andrea is joined by Andrea Case (baroque cello, gamba), Justin Luchinski (harpsichord & organ), and Ralph Maier (lute, baroque guitar, and theorbo).
