Holocaust Remembrance Concert

In commemoration of the annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27), School of Creative and Performing Arts Music faculty, students and alumni present a concert of music by Jewish composers, including a string trio by Gideon Klein. This was Klein’s very last composition, written in the Terezin concentration camp in 1944. Soon after completing the work, he was sent to Auschwitz and from there to Fürstengrube, where he perished in January 1945.

The programme also includes Klezmer music, which essentially disappeared from Europe after the Holocaust. Then the music of Felix Mendelssohn, Ernest Bloch and Darius Milhaud will round out the program.

Opening address: Dr. Deborah Yedlin, Chancellor, University of Calgary
