The annual "Rising Stars" concert is a highlight of our performance year as we bring to the stage of the Jack Singer Concert Hall winners of the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition. The 2022 Rising Stars concert will feature two musicians - Cellist Sabina Sandvoss and Violinist Ashley Tsai from the 2020 competition; and Flutist Jinghui Bai, Pianist Riley Ngo, Pianist Alexa Brianna Manzano and Violinist Chanan Ngo from 2022. These young (18 years and under) musicians astound audiences with their musicianship and their poise.
The concert will feature the young musicians playing music from Franz Benda, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Camille Saint-Saëns, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Aram Khachaturian.
A pre-concert recital featuring the runners-up from the 2022 Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition will be held starting at 1:45 in the lobby of the Jack Singer Concert Hall.
This is a concert you don't want to miss!
Maestro Rolf Bertsch conducts The Calgary Civic Symphony in our tribute to the awakening year.
The Calgary Civic Symphony was founded in 1975 as Calgary’s volunteer orchestra. Over the years, the Civic has swelled to over 80 musicians. With an interesting diversity in professions, its members come together each week to rehearse complex orchestral works. Under the baton of Artistic Director and Conductor Rolf Bertsch, the Symphony shapes and polishes performances that are truly brilliant!
