Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Alita Laurie began studying harp at the age of 8, after bothering her mother with the idea for a year. No one in Alita’s family can recollect where her love of harp sprung from!
While growing up, Alita put on Harp solo concerts to fundraise for humanitarian efforts in Burundi. As a young adult, in 2017, Alita recorded her first CD entitled “Taking Wing”. Alita has completed her Royal College of Music Grade 10 Harp Proficiency Tests which include, orchestral, solo, study, ear training and theory examinations. She is now the principal harpist in the Calgary Civic Symphony and Calgary Wind Symphony and can be found teaching her students around town or busking in the park!
