Calgary Civic Symphony takes you to exotic and magical Persia and Arabia in this program featuring two composers’ visions of the Scheherazade stories.
The concert features Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. Based on stories from the collection One Thousand and One Nights (also known as The Arabian Nights), this symphonic suite features dazzling, colorful orchestration and an interest in the East, with a solo violin part performed by our concertmaster, Maria van der Sloot.
The concert also features Calgary mezzo-soprano Andrea Hill in Ravel's Shéhérazade, and Vafa Adib on the hammered dulcimer in Ney Nava by Iranian composer Hossein Alizadeh.
Single tickets are $35 (adults) / $30 (seniors) / $24 (students/youth). Children 6 and under enjoys free admission.
5-concert subscriptions are also available at $145 (adults) / $120 (seniors) / $90 (students/youth).
