Kensington Sinfonia

UNESCO Heritage with soloist Debra Fast

An evening featuring original music from local composers + a panel discussion

Calgary's original chamber music ensemble Kensington Sinfonia presents a season finale like no other. Two new commissions fully supported by Canada Council mark the unique time and place that Calgary/Mokhintsiss represents. UNESCO Heritage for solo violin and orchestra by Kristin Flores takes the listener on a journey around incredible sites in Alberta and in Italy. Kensington Sinfonia is excited to welcome violinist Debra Fast, for whom this work was written and to whom it is dedicated.

In contrast, Sonny Ray Day Rider invites the audience on an introspective journey of the psychology of loss with his new commission, Grief Eater. An exciting new talent from southern Alberta, KS is grateful to Canada Council for the Arts for funding this incredible work.

The remainder of the program highlights past commissions undertaken by Kensington Sinfonia, including Storm Clouds Over Camp Creek by Ashley Seward, Chinook by Donovan Seidle, Ravenswood by Arthur Bachmann, and Silver City by George Fenwick. Join us in celebrating 35 years of music made by and for Albertans.

After the concert CPAWS (Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society) will host a discussion with Debra Fast and the composer to talk about the music, the land, the inspiration and the realization of this exciting project.

UNESCO Heritage with soloist Debra Fast will take place on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen's Anglican Church (1121 14 Avenue SW,  Calgary).
