On November 12, the Calgary Youth Orchestra will perform one of the most transcendental and profound masterpieces in the orchestral repertoire: Symphony No. 9 by Anton Bruckner. A devoutly religious man, Bruckner composed this spiritual symphony just before his death, and dedicated it to “God the Beloved”. The program will also include Mendelssohn’s Calm See and Prosperous Voyage Overture, inspired by a poem by the 18th century German poet and philosopher of the Enlightenment, J. W. von Goethe.
Tickets are $20 (general) and $15 (students over 18 and seniors) and are available online, by calling 403-440-7770, or at the door.
