The Ghosts of Inspiration

Daria Rabotkina, piano

An evening of solo repertoire featuring pianist Daria Rabotkina. This concert will explore works written during the “tender” and difficult periods in composers’ lives.

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827): Selected Bagatelles, Op. 33 (1803)
Nikolai Medtner (1880-1951): Sonata-Reminiscenza, Op. 38, No. 1
Paul Harvey Aurandt (b. 1948): Sonata in B-flat Minor (1975)

Born in Kazan, Russia, into a family of musicians, Daria Rabotkina gave her first solo recital at the age of ten. Her education started at the Specialized Music School and continued in Kazan State Conservatory and Mannes College of Music in New York City. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. Rabotkina has performed with Kirov (Mariinsky) Orchestra, Moscow State Symphony, and Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as solo recitals at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Kennedy Center, and Weill Recital Hall among others. Winner of the 2007 Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Rabotkina received top prizes at several international competitions. Rabotkina currently teaches at Texas State University as Assistant Professor of Piano.
