Join MRU Academy and APP faculty Sarah MacDonald on flute, Laurie Matiation on horn, and Ami Longhi on piano for an afternoon of beautiful chamber music. The program will begin with the Celtic inspired Sweet Simplicity by the American flutist Rhonda Larson. The trio will then join together to perform the stunning Scènes de la forêt by the prolific female French composer, Mel Bonis. With beautiful textures and stunning orchestration this four movement piece highlights the mastery of Bonis’s craft when it comes to both colours and orchestration. The program will end with the ever popular Ballade, Pastorale and Dance by the American composer Eric Ewazen. This work takes the listener on a musical journey that begins with the ominous and flourish filled first movement followed by the beautiful second movement in an impressionistic style. The final movement brings the listener full circle from the concert’s opening piece as it is an exciting display of both lyricism and virtuosity based on a catchy Celtic theme.
