Calgary flutist Sarah MacDonald and Edmonton pianist Leanne Regehr present Postcards from An Imaginary Vacation at both in-person and livestream broadcast through the Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts.

This concert features Calgary flautist Sarah MacDonald and Edmonton pianist Leanne Regehr. These wonderful musicians are well known in the Alberta flute community and have performed together many times. They are absolutely thrilled to be putting on a performance during this challenging time and hope their musical interlude might be just what you need to unwind this holiday season.

The musical program was selected to take you on a journey around the world featuring beautiful, easy listening music balanced with impressive virtuosity. The journey begins with the beautiful cascading melodies of the Sonata by Srul Irving Glick, a Canadian classic in the flute repertoire. Next stop, the Sonatine by Henri Dutilleux brings us to France and showcases the amazing virtuosity of French flute music. The 3 Melodies by Edmonton composer, Joseph Cheukman Lai showcases beautiful polyrhythmic writing and takes inspiration from Lai’s Chinese heritage. Finally, the Sonata Latino by British composer, Mike Mower is nothing short of a party as the three movements draw inspiration from various Latin dance styles.

Postcards from An Imaginary Vacation takes place at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at the Polaris Centre for the Performing Arts (#8, 261051 Wagon Wheel View, Rocky View County).

Tickets are $20 (general) / $25 (VIP) and are available online through www.polariscentre.ca or at the door (limited number of tickets available).
