Festival of Music within the Liturgy, June 18 - 26

Emerging from the pandemic as a centre of vitality and renewal in the downtown core, the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer is founding a new Festival of Music within the Liturgy, June 18 – 26, under the leadership of Cathedral Director of Music, Neil Cockburn

This new Festival celebrates a wide array of church music styles within the context of worship services. Highlights include traditional Anglican Choral Evensong and Festival Mass Settings in the larger weekend services, with more intimate time for prayer and meditation at the week-day noon prayers. Guest musicians include Donovan Seidle (violin), Chenelle Roberts (vocalist), Chellan Hoffman (director and keyboardist), and Mark Bartel (guest conductor).

“The motto of the Cathedral has long been ‘A Place for the Soul in the Heart of the City’ and we aim to bring that to life this June with daily live music and open doors,” says Cockburn. “We hope that visitors and residents of the downtown area will hear our music as they walk by, and come in for a warm welcome, and stay for a time of peace and reflection.”

Festival of Music Within the Liturgy will take place daily from June 18 - 26, 2022 at the Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, Corner of 7 Avenue SE and 1 Street SE in downtown Calgary, just across from Olympic Plaza and steps away from the City Hall and Centre Street C-Train stations.

All events are free to attend, no tickets required. This Festival highlights church music within public worship services. For more information, visit www.anglicancathedralcalgary.ca or call (403) 269-1905, ext 117.
