In 1979, four people had a dream of forming a choir consisting of members from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. The music was to reflect the cultural mosaic of the members and their Canadian Heritage. Today, the Calgary Multicultural Choir has grown to more than 60 members with a variety of musical experience and from diverse cultural backgrounds. As the name stands, the current choir membership represents 26 countries.
In keeping with the original concept that makes the choir unique, the music continues to reflect the Multicultural Heritage of the members. Their May 27th concert will feature a range of traditional and contemporary music from around the world, with lyrics in a variety of languages and cultures, including songs and languages from Korea, Nigeria, England, Canada, USA, Argentina, Arabic, and France. They will also be joined by special guests from the Acclectica Accordion Group.
This is also the last concert with their Artistic Director/Conductor Nancy Thomson who has been with the choir for the last 18 seasons!
Tickets are $15 (adults/seniors) and free admission for students & children 12 and under.
As is the tradition at all their concerts, they will be collecting cash and food donations for the Calgary Food Bank.
