On November 5, Calgary's renowned Spiritus Chamber Choir embarks on a melodic journey, connecting the dots between folk traditions and artistic excellence.
This award-winning chamber choir, recognized both nationally and internationally for their sublime performances, is set to launch their 28th season with a captivating concert titled Of the People. The concert promises an enthralling experience where traditional folk melodies intertwine with refined artistic compositions.
"Exploring the line between folk song and art song, this program grew from a curiosity around the ways that places and spaces influence composers around the world, highlighting its vast and rich musical tapestry," says Andrea Ciona, Artistic Director of Spiritus Chamber Choir. "We aim to celebrate the universality of music, how it unites us, and reminds us of our shared humanity."
The afternoon’s programme includes classical favourites from the likes of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók and American composer James Erb, alongside a refreshing blend from modern contemporaries Dolly Parton and Cree composers Andrew Balfour and Sherryl Sewepagaham, among others.
The concert presents mesmerising blend of an auditory exploration across continents, and also a profound insight into the shared human experiences that music so eloquently captures. Whether you are an avid choir enthusiast or someone looking for a transcendent musical experience, Of the People promises an afternoon that will touch your soul and uplift your spirit.
Of the People will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 - 8 Street SW, Calgary). For more information, visit spirituschamberchoir.ca.
