Calgary's renowned professional chamber choir, Luminous Voices, is set to captivate audiences once again with their upcoming concert, Mozart Requiem, set to take place on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Bella Concert Hall, Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts. This performance not only marks a milestone in the choir's journey but also signifies a return to where it all began – the Bella Concert Hall, where Luminous Voices made their debut in 2015.
At the heart of this performance lies the Robert Levin edition of Mozart's Requiem. This rendition, meticulously crafted by musicologist Robert Levin, pays homage to Mozart's original vision while rectifying certain imperfections introduced by Mozart's pupil, Süssmayr. By seamlessly integrating elements from newer versions, the Levin edition ensures the preservation of Mozart's musical essence. Accompanied by a chamber orchestra, Luminous Voices promises a rendition that is both faithful to the composer's intentions and rich with emotive depth.
What truly sets this performance apart is the exceptional talent gracing the stage. The concert features the luminous voices of Hannah Pagenkopf (soprano), Aoife Bonaventura (alto), Jason Ragan (tenor), and Nicholas Allen (bass), all highly talented Calgary singers, all of whom are long-standing members of Luminous Voices. Joining them is the captivating Japanese-Canadian dancer and choreographer Yukichi Hattori, adding a visual dimension to the auditory feast.
The concert will also feature a diverse selection accompanied and unaccompanied works by acclaimed composers, including “Mamachimowin” by Andrew Balfour, “Philos Hilaron“ by Owain Park, “Ecce homo” Jeffrey Ryan, and “Hymn of the Cherubim” by Tchaikovsky.
