An Evening of Musical Mastery

Luka Coetzee and Susanne Ruberg-Gordon Live at Bella Concert Hall

On October 24, Calgary music lovers can look forward to a mesmerizing evening as cellist Luka Coetzee returns to Calgary to perform alongside pianist Susanne Ruberg-Gordon. Held in the exquisite Bella Concert Hall, the concert promises a captivating display of both technical mastery and artistic interpretation.

Praised as "tonally, technically, and musically superb" by Fanfare Magazine, Luka Coetzee has garnered attention on the global stage for her phenomenal artistry and musicianship. A former student of MRU Conservatory’s Advanced Performance Program, Coetzee’s career has flourished since her professional debut at the age of 11. She has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras worldwide, including the Helsinki Philharmonic, Cape Town Philharmonic, and Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, to name a few.

In 2023, Coetzee claimed first prize at the prestigious 7th International Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki, Finland — one of many accolades in her remarkable career, including the 2022 Pablo Casals International Award and the 9th Johansen International Strings Competition. Her artistry and dedication place her among the most exciting young musicians today.

The concert offers a diverse selection of music, highlighting works from the Baroque era to the contemporary. This concert promises to captivate with its blend of classical and modern influences, from Debussy’s evocative sonorities to the energetic rhythms of Piazzolla’s tango. A special highlight will be Dragon Dance by Canadian composer Vincent Ho.

Joining Coetzee on piano is Susanne Ruberg-Gordon, a highly sought-after chamber musician and collaborative pianist known for her expressive and nuanced performances. As a core member of Calgary’s Juno-nominated Land’s End Ensemble, Ruberg-Gordon’s artistry will add depth to the concert.
