Vox Luminis makes a Calgary stop on nine-City North American tour

Calgary music lovers are in for a rare treat as Early Music Voices and Calgary Pro Musica co-present the world-renowned early music ensemble, Vox Luminis, for two captivating performances on November 3 and 4 at the University of Calgary’s Rozsa Centre.

This Belgian ensemble, featuring ten singers and baroque instrumentalists, will take audiences on a journey through music that profoundly influenced J.S. Bach. Their program, entitled Bach – The Arnstadt Connection, showcases choral works from various members of the Bach family and includes J.S. Bach’s own Cantata No. 4, Christ lag in Todesbanden – a moving work exploring themes of struggle, faith, and redemption.

This concert marks the sixth stop of Vox Luminis’s nine-city North American tour, celebrating their 20th anniversary. Over the past two decades, the ensemble has distinguished itself for its vibrant sound, meticulous attention to historical authenticity, and the rich, uniform timbre of its singers. Led by Artistic Director Lionel Meunier, Vox Luminis has released 19 albums to date on renowned labels such as Alpha Classics and Ricercar. Their recordings have garnered international accolades, including Gramophone’s prestigious Recording of the Year award in 2012.
