On November 10, just ahead of Remembrance Day, Spiritus Chamber Choir invites you to experience Echoes of Conflict: War & Peace, an evocative choral concert at Christ Church Elbow Park. This concert explores the profound emotional landscapes of war and peace through a thoughtfully curated selection of choral music, offering the audience a contemplative journey through history and human resilience.
At the heart of the program lies When David Heard by Eric Whitacre, a piece renowned for its heart-wrenching portrayal of grief and loss. Based on the biblical story of King David mourning his son Absalom, Whitacre’s composition captures the rawness of sorrow with arresting harmonies and moments of profound silence. Complementing this centerpiece is Forgotten Warriors by Indigenous composer Russell Wallace, a work that honours the sacrifices of Indigenous soldiers whose stories are often left untold.
Through these powerful compositions and others, Echoes of Conflict weaves together historical and contemporary narratives of conflict, loss, and reconciliation. Each piece in the program has been selected by Spiritus' Artistic Director Andrea Ciona to explore different dimensions of the human experience in times of war, fostering reflection on the ways in which societies remember and strive for peace.
This poignant event is sure to resonate with audiences, providing an opportunity to reflect on the complexities of war and the enduring hope for peace.
Tickets for Echoes of Conflict are available for $25 (adults), $20 (seniors), and $10 (students aged 13 and up), with free admission for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door on the evening of the performance.
